The short version
- We collect only what we need to teach you or your child: the details you send us, and your academy account and progress.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers.
- Payments are handled by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number.
- Accounts for young learners are set up and managed by a parent or guardian.
- Some lesson games listen for piano keys through your device's microphone. The listening happens on your device; nothing is recorded, kept or sent anywhere, and you can switch it off.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information at any time: hello@krystleclearmusic.com.
Who we are
Krystle Clear Music LLC ("we", "us") is a piano teaching studio based in Suffern, New York. This policy covers our website krystleclearmusic.com (including the Kids Zone and free games) and our online school, the Krystle Clear Academy at academy.krystleclearmusic.com, as well as the lessons we provide through them.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Invitation requests — your name, email address, phone number (optional), who the lessons are for, the plan you're interested in and anything you add in the note. Requests are stored in the academy so Krystle can review and answer them.
- Messages — anything you include when you email us.
- Academy accounts — name, email address and password, plus the lessons you complete and your course progress.
- Payments — when you pay for a membership, your payment is processed by Stripe. Stripe receives your card details directly; we receive only a confirmation and basic billing information (such as your name, email and the plan you chose).
- Live lessons — if your plan includes live lessons, they take place on Zoom, under Zoom's own privacy policy.
- Practice videos — short videos of your child (or of you) playing, which you choose to send through the academy for a Checkpoint Review or for coaching, together with the child's first name and any note you add.
- Lesson agreement — when you sign your lesson agreement in the academy, we keep the signed copy together with your typed name, the date and time, the version you signed and the internet address (IP) it was signed from.
Information collected automatically
- Technical information — like every website, our hosting, content-delivery and security providers process basic technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so they can deliver the sites and protect them from abuse.
- Cookies on the academy — the academy uses cookies to keep you signed in, remember your place in a course, and complete checkout. These are needed for the academy to work. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party analytics.
- Kids Zone and free games — these run in your browser and don't ask for personal information. A game may save its progress in your own browser; that stays on your device.
How we use your information
- To review and answer your invitation request, and to arrange your consultation.
- To provide your courses, live lessons and account, and to save your progress.
- To process payments and manage your membership.
- To answer your questions and send messages about your lessons or account.
- To keep our sites secure and working properly, and to meet legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.
Practice videos and Checkpoint Reviews
Practice videos are videos of a child, so we treat them with particular care. A parent or guardian sends them, and by sending one you agree to Krystle viewing it for teaching purposes. Videos are stored privately with Vimeo, hidden from public view and playable only inside the academy; only Krystle and the small team that runs the academy can see them. A family's video is deleted 90 days after Krystle's review, and her video replies are deleted after a year. You can delete a video at any time from Coach's Corner. We never use a student's video, name or image in marketing without your separate written permission.
Listening at the piano
Some lesson games ask your child to play a key, and the game listens for it through your device's microphone. The microphone is only used after you tap to start a game, and your browser asks for your permission first. The sound is checked on your device as it happens, to tell which piano keys were played; it is not recorded, not stored and not sent to us or to anyone else. You can decline the microphone, or switch it off at any time in your browser or device settings, and the game still works: your child plays along and a grown-up taps to count the notes. The games do not use the camera.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run the studio, and only as much as they need to do their job:
- Hostinger (website hosting) and Cloudflare (content delivery and security).
- Stripe (payment processing).
- Vimeo (lesson video playback and private storage of practice videos) and Zoom (live lessons).
- Our email provider, to send and receive email.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our students or others. If our business is ever transferred, your information would move with it under the same protections.
Children's privacy
Our courses are designed for learners as young as two, so we take children's privacy seriously. Academy accounts, invitation requests and practice videos for children must be made or sent by a parent or legal guardian, who manages the account. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13, and the Kids Zone and free games don't ask for any. If you believe a child has given us personal information without a parent's consent, email hello@krystleclearmusic.com and we will delete it.
Third-party content
Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, and lesson pages play videos through Vimeo's player; those services receive your IP address when they deliver their content, under their own privacy policies. Links to other websites are provided for convenience — we're not responsible for their privacy practices.
How long we keep it
We keep invitation requests only as long as we need them to answer you and follow up. Practice videos are deleted 90 days after Krystle's review. Account and progress information is kept while your account is active, and payment records as long as the law requires. When information is no longer needed, we delete it.
Your choices and rights
- Ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or to correct it.
- Ask us to delete your information or close your account.
- Tell us to stop sending you any non-essential email.
Some states, including California, give residents specific privacy rights. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever you live — just email us.
Security
Our sites use encrypted connections (HTTPS), and we use reputable providers for hosting and payments. No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, but we work to protect yours and limit who can access it.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
